Radio controlled planes

While it isn't a design project, I can confidently say that RC planes were the first foundation for my becoming an engineer, so I feel a necessity to include them here. Growing up with a plane-loving-engineer for a dad exposed me to building and designing at a very young age. I built my first plane when I was seven and discovered the thrill of turning nothing in to something. Even just the frame amazed me, and then soldering in electronic components that enabled that frame to fly through the sky instilled a sense of awe for design that hasn't left me since.

Rookie

My first plane, a simple glider, built at the age of seven and what I learned to fly on.

Little Drake

My smallest plane is highly delicate and I repeatedly snapped pieces while constructing it, but I learned patience and how to think of solutions on the fly as I broke things that couldn't be easily replaced. After completing it I wanted to showcase its intricacies, so I opted for the transparent covering.

Rascal

The third plane that I built was the Rascal, when I was thirteen years old. Old enough to do the construction completely alone, I meticulously built it and spent hours hand-cutting the designs before ironing them over top.
